Using alternative data to gauge labour market trends

Traditional labour market data is among the widely used gauges for economic activity, but has several limitations, such as poor timeliness, low frequency, lack of transparency and availability. In order to plug the gap, CEIC in partnership with Revelio Labs, is using weekly data on active, new and removed job postings as a way to get ahead on important labour trends and complement traditional labour data sources. For countries such as India, where the official labour market data is available only on quarterly basis and released with large lags, alternative employment indicators have become a pre-requisite to gauge the current momentum of the economy.

Join our economists Georgi Ninov and Rohini Sanyal to understand how alternative data on employment can serve as a leading indicator of labour market conditions, and consequently, the overall economy, as well as discuss the case for India.
