India's economic success story has made the nation's stock market consistently popular among international investors. The nation is expected to post a third straight fiscal year with a growth rate surpassing 7%; it's also set to exceed its own initial growth expectations.
Data from EPFR shows India had registered 16 consecutive months of positive equity fund flows as of April. In February, the USD 7 billion inflow was a record for a single month.
The rest of emerging Asia saw outflows in 5 of those 16 months – almost one-third of the time.

As our second chart shows, India's share of the equity funds under management for emerging Asia as a whole has surged. India accounted for 41.3% as of April 2024, up from 25.5% three years earlier.
Figures for May are set to be released soon. Flows for June (released in July) could be particularly interesting, given the election result that saw Prime Minister Narendra Modi lose his parliamentary majority.
The EPFR datasets available on CEIC cover more than 151,000 traditional and alternative fund share classes accounting for more than $52 trillion in total assets – delivering a complete picture of the institutional and retail investor flows and fund manager allocations that drive global markets.
